SCARSDALE REC/SYLA - K THRU 2 BOYS LACROSSE SPRING HOUSE LEAGUE
The SYLA/ REC DEPT. offers a Lacrosse House League during the Spring Season for Boys in grades K thru 2. The House League is structured as a developmental program to introduce lacrosse and prepare players to eventually participate in the SYLA Travel Programs as they enter 3rd grade and beyond. No previous experience is required.
The K thru 2 Grade House League has the following objectives; teach fundamentals and skills of lacrosse, introduce game concepts and provide instruction in a fun and enthusiastic environment for the players.
The level of play is in a non-competitive, developmental and inter-squad play atmosphere. Players are randomly placed in a group that we call tribes (teams). Calling the teams, tribes, introduces the players to the North American Indian origins and history of the game of Lacrosse. Each group has an equal amount of K, 1st and 2nd graders. Placing players into groups allow the coaches to give more individual attention to the teaching of the sport and more individual attention to the players. All groups adhere to a specific lesson plan for each week. All groups instruct off of the same lesson plan.
The House Program meets twice a week with one hour sessions occurring on Saturday and Sunday during the months of April through June. Saturday sessions are devoted to teaching lacrosse in a clinic/practice format, with Sunday sessions devoted to game concepts and playing games among the other teams/tribes.
To participate in the Lacrosse program all players will be required to have US Lacrosse Membership ID Registration Number (US Lacrosse is the official governing organization for Lacrosse in the USA) and the following lacrosse equipment:
Stick (no fiddle sticks)
Cleats are recommended but not required
As a part of the registration fee all players will be supplied with a uniform consisting of a reversible Pinney/Jersey and Shorts.
